CORE Coaches

Posted by Ben Swoboda on Sunday, August 16, 2015, In : CORE Updates

Over the years, we have learned the secret sauce of CORE Improv has been the coaches. A good CORE coach brings their own natural qualities, including humor, charisma, high emotional IQ, and dependability. But certain things must also be added to that mix which only come from experience and mentoring. Our most successful and long-standing coaches have had years of performance and coaching experience, plus guidance from previous CORE coaches. Every coach is encouraged to bring their unique appr...

New CORE Coach: Melanie Penn

Posted by Ben Swoboda on Sunday, September 28, 2014, In : CORE Updates
I just wanted to take a moment to thank Melanie Penn for joining the fold of CORE coaches who work with students and inspire them to perform improv at new levels.

Melanie's decision to become a CORE Coach is a great thing for everyone. She is very active in the St. Louis Improv Community, doubling as one of the coaches at The Improv Shop, where she also performs. Being able to tap into that experience will be a major boon for students of improv, seeking to understand what it's like "out there...

Congratulations to the Improv Shop!

Posted by Ben Swoboda on Tuesday, August 5, 2014,
Our friends at The Improv Shop passed a major milestone recently and we're very late blogging about it. Shame on us!

Although they have successfully been conducting workshops and performing in their previous location, they presumably decided they had grown enough that they could make the leap. Now they are their own establishment in the Central West End.

Join me in congratulating those brave folks. We love 'em.

The Missouri Thespian Conference

Posted by Ben Swoboda on Sunday, January 12, 2014, In : Improv in the News
What is happening to our youth?

CORE coaches have been involved in nearly every Missouri Thespian Conference since 2000, and every year the students get more mature. I cannot tell you how impressed was. This group of approximately 1500 students compared very favorably in terms of self-confidence, social skills, decorum, intelligence, graciousness, and map-reading.

CORE also had the honor of being involved with Missouri Thespian Conference's Improv Olympix.

I want to personally thank some of the...

Let  me put it like this... here is your SAT-style relationship comparison.
